Powershell Progress Bar without knowing estimated time ?! Programming & Development.Data from the NAS or SAN should be transferred to local computer, edited, then transferred back when complete. I can see how a NAS or SAN for OP could be a great storage solution but editing off of it doesn't sound practical to me. To reproduce something like that at a business level, even crazier. But the cost of doing what they did with consumer grade equipment was crazy. But just keep the context that they are not designing systems for business use, they are building systems that attract views on YouTube from consumers. Nothing against them, they've made a good business building huge, consumer silly gear - great business plan. The stuff that they build is generally a complete joke in the IT world. They enjoy what they do and they make good money making goofy videos to sell consumer gear. Just be aware, those guys are gadget bench people, not IT or business. There are plenty more on his channel about the price, products, and solution he's implemented and how to maintain and upgrade it: Here is an older video of the project and plans. Just to edit over the network in 4K took a huge amount of resources. There is a Youtube by the name of LinusTechTips who went through a huge network storage project for all of his staff's editing machines. RED footage can be very huge due to the extremely good quality. You're going to need some specific answers. I'd look for more information on a video editing forum because this will be more specific to video and your particular software and video workflow than just general IT. The problem with this however is depending on your editing software, if you need to make changes later to your video, it can be painful to have to copy those files back and sometimes the links break if you change the file structure. The way I've seen this done a lot is yo have a large NAS or SAN or file server with 30,50,100 TB space and then copy the video files necessary to the local editing machine and do your edits and then copy the rendered and compressed video file back when done. Some of them won't let you access network volumes for clips or will have issues. It also depends on what editing software you use. But I'm sure you are using significantly larger files and higher resolution. I've found that I can do basic editing from QNAP NAS to my iMac over gigbit LAN using Adobe Premier and 2K compressed H.264 video. Depends on how large of files you are working with on your Reds but if you are doing any kind of uncompressed or lightly compressed 4K, NAS or any kind of network storage won't be fast enough for editing.
